Mumbai: A massive protest in Vile Parle on Saturday as thousands from the Jain community across Mumbai gathered to oppose the proposed demolition of a 90-year-old Digambar Jain temple by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Minister of skill Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Vile Parle MLA Parag Alavani, MP Varsha Gaikwad and Ghatkopar MLA Parag Shah also joined the rally till BMC K/East ward office.
Protesters were seen holding banners that read “We are Jain, we will not STOP; we will not GIVE UP” as they demonstrated against the demolition of the Jain Mandir by the BMC. A massive crowd gathered in Vile Parle, showcasing strong unity and determination to protect the 90-year-old temple.
During the demolition of the Jain temple, municipal staff have been accused of mishandling religious items, with allegations that sacred books and objects belonging to the Jain community.
According to members of the Jain community, the BMC proceeded with the demolition using JCB machines. They are now demanding that the temple be rebuilt at its original location, citing both spiritual and historical significance.
