Filmmaker Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light missed out on converting its two nominations at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards to victories. The film lost to Emilia Perez in the Best Non-English Motion Picture category and to Brady Corbet (The Brutalist) in the Best Director category. The award took place in Los Angeles on Sunday and it was a star-studded affair.
Payal, who also attended the global film event, shared a picture with the producers of All We Imagine As Light and reacted to losing the awards.
In the picture, she can be seen posing with Thomas Hakim, Julien Graff, and Ranabir Das before they headed to Golden Globes. “We didn’t win anything but had soo much fun (sic),” Payal captioned the picture which she posted on her Instagram story.
Payal also gave a shout-out to designer Payal Khandwala and stylist Indrakshi Pattanaik for her stunning outfit. “And a special thank you to @payalkhandwala for this amazing outfit… and @styledbyindrakshi for being the kindest, smartest stylist who helped me feel so confident,” she added.
About All We Imagine As Light
The film has brought global recognition to Indian cinema. The anticipation for its domestic release was high, especially after its successful run on global platforms. In India, it released in theatres on November 22 and it has been well-received by film critics as well as the audience.
Starring Kani Kusruti, and Chhaya Kadam, along with Divya Prabha, All We Imagine As Light follows the lives of three women working at a hospital in Mumbai. The film captures their deep bond as they navigate loneliness and face challenges in the bustling city. The story explores themes of friendship, resilience, and connection.
It follows Prabha’s character, who receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband, and Anu, her young roommate seeking intimacy with her boyfriend.
All We Imagine As Light made history by premiering at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first Indian film since 1994 to compete in the main competition and winning the prestigious Grand Prix. It also won Best International at the New York Film Critics Circle and the Best International Feature trophy at the reputed Gotham Awards 2024.
The film also topped the list of former US President Barack Obama’s favourite movies of 2024.
