Watan Prem Yojana: Development is taking place in the villages of Gujarat with the help of diaspora

Positive changes are being seen in the rural areas of Gujarat due to the ‘Watan Prem Yojana’ of the state government. The scheme aims to encourage overseas Indians for active participation in the development of their ancestral villages under the public-private partnership model.

When was the scheme started?

The Watan Prem Yojana was started in the year 2021. Its main objective is to connect the diaspora living outside Gujarat with the development of their villages. Under this scheme, they can voluntarily contribute to renovation, road construction, hygiene, and other infrastructure projects in villages.

New school built in Khadal village

Sarpanch Phool Singh Jala of Khadal village in Kheda district said that through this scheme, the village has benefited especially in the field of education. A new school was built in the village with a contribution of Rs 72 lakh given by the diaspora, in which about 400 students are getting quality education today. This school has now become an inspiration for nearby villages.

Nine crore rupees contributed to Uttarasanda village

Overseas Indians living in Uttarasanda village of Kheda have so far contributed nine crore rupees. With this amount, beautification of ponds, modern bus stands, and other public facilities have been created in the village.

The source of inspiration became ‘love from the country’

Pravasi Bharatiya Kaushikbhai Patel said, “We may live abroad, but the heart is always connected to our country and village. This love inspires us to do something for our village. We want the coming generations to say proudly that their village is progressing.”
