Jack Smith, the special counsel who fought against fraud in the 2020 presidential election and misuse of classified government documents, has resigned before Trump is sworn in on January 20. Jack Smith has resigned from the Justice Department after releasing his investigative report on Trump.

Special counsel Jack Smith has completed his work, according to a court filing before U.S. District Judge Eileen Cannon. He submitted a final confidential report on January 7 and separated from the Justice Department on January 10. Jack Smith fought two of the four cases against Trump after he lost the 2020 election. However, a Trump-appointed judge in Florida dismissed one case, while three Trump-appointed Supreme Court justices ruled that former presidents enjoy blanket immunity from prosecution for official acts. Not a single case reached the stage of hearing. Jack Smith’s resignation was expected as Trump has often called him crazy. He also said that after assuming the presidency he would remove Jack and take revenge on those who investigated him, including Jack.
