Analysis of US Immigration Department data shows that one-fifth of the total H1B visas issued by the US in 2024 were to Indian-origin technology companies.

Among these, Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services are the most prominent. According to US Citizenship and Immigration Services data, out of the total 1.3 lakh H1B visas issued to various applicants during the period April-September 2024, about 24,766 visas were issued to Indian-origin companies. Among these, Infosys topped with 8140 beneficiaries. After this, 5274 employees of TCS and 2953 employees of HCL America got H1B visa. Globally, Infosys was second behind AMAZONE.COM SERVICES LLC, which topped the list with 9265 visas.

Cognizant stood third with 6321 visas

Cognizant, which was founded in Chennai but is now headquartered in New York, stood third with 6,321 visas. The H1B visa program allows US companies to temporarily hire foreign workers in specific occupations. It is noteworthy that Indian companies have been important beneficiaries of this program, especially in the technology sector. Ongoing developments indicate regulatory changes. The future of the H1B visa will likely depend on balancing American businesses’ need for skilled labor with comprehensive immigration policy reform.
