In a major development in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s move to Goa from Mumbai, a report has emerged that the star opener was increasingly frustrated over the last 2 years. Jaiswal has earlier taken everyone by surprise with his his decision to join Goa. The former Mumbai batter obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the MCA to leave his old side and join Goa for the upcoming domestic season.
Why did Jaiswal decide to leave Mumbai?
According to an India Today report, the relationship between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane gradually soured over time, eventually reaching a breaking point. The tension began in 2022 when Rahane, as the West Zone captain, sent Jaiswal off the field for disciplinary reasons. Jaiswal had been involved in sledging Ravi Teja, the South Zone batter, and Rahane felt that his behavior had crossed a line.
The discord deepened further after Jaiswal faced criticism for his shot selection during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy two seasons ago while playing for Mumbai. While some of the criticism may have been justified, Jaiswal felt unfairly singled out by the team management, which added to his growing frustration.
The situation came to a head during a Ranji Trophy match last season between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir at BKC. Despite the presence of Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma in the Mumbai lineup, J&K pulled off a remarkable victory. Jaiswal had a poor performance in the match, and following the loss, the team management, including coach Omkar Salvi and Rahane, questioned his commitment. This final round of criticism proved to be the tipping point for Jaiswal, who, in a moment of anger, reportedly kicked Rahane’s kitbag.
These incidents, combined with the mounting frustration over the past two years, led to Jaiswal’s decision to leave Mumbai and move to Goa,

In an interview with Indian Express Jaiswal finally broke his silence about the reason behind making the move. He said,”It was a very tough decision for me. Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai. The city has made me who I am, and all my life, I will be indebted to the MCA,”.
He added, “Goa has thrown me a new opportunity and it has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India and whenever I’m not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to make them go deep into the tournament. This was an (important) opportunity which came my way and I just took it.”
