JPC meeting on the Waqf Bill has been completed. 22 amendments of the ruling party have been passed in JPC. While all the opposition’s research has been rejected. The opposition introduced 44 amendments but all were rejected. Now the next meeting of JPC will be held on 29 January.
Uproar in JPC meeting even today
However, there was an uproar in the JPC meeting held today. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee created a ruckus. Regarding the meeting held today, the chairman of the committee Jagdambika Pal said that 44 amendments were discussed. After detailed discussion in a period of 6 months, we demanded improvement from all members. This was our last meeting, so the committee has accepted 14 amendments by majority. The opposition also suggested amendment. We introduced each of them amendments and voted on them. But he got 10 votes in support and 16 votes in opposition. After this, the opposition parties rejected this amendment.
On the Waqf Amendment Bill, members of the Parliamentary Committee suggested amendment in the draft of the bill. BJP and opposition members have amended the bill. However, the list of members presenting the amendment did not include the name of any BJP ally.
The Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Minorities Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on 8 August and was later sent to the Joint Committee of Parliament. The Bill aims to amend the Waqf Act, 1995 to solve problems and challenges in regulation and management of Waqf properties.
Report may be presented in budget session
It is believed that the committee can present its 500 -page report in the next budget session. The Waqf Committee has held 34 meetings in Delhi and visited several states where more than 24 stakeholders were invited. Out of 21 Lok Sabha and 10 Rajya Sabha members of the committee, 13 are from opposition parties. The lower house consists of nine members and the upper house has four members.
