The debate over the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 has intensified across the country. Now a big update has surfaced on it. President Draupadi Murmu has approved this bill, after which this bill has now taken the form of law. That is, it can be implemented all over the country. After passing from both houses of Parliament – Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, it was sent to the President for approval.
What is the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025?
This bill has been brought in the country for protecting, transparency and better management of Waqf properties. Its aim is to prevent illegal occupation and misuse of Waqf lands. The government claims that this law is not against any particular religion and it is wrong to say anti -Muslim.
According to the government, this new law will ensure the correct use of Waqf properties and will also protect the rights of Muslim women. But despite this, there has been protest and political debate in the country.
How did it pass in Parliament?
The bill was introduced in Parliament after a 6 -month long discussion and a review of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). There was a strong debate in Parliament, after which:
- The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, where 288 MPs voted in support and 232 MPs.
- It also passed in the Rajya Sabha, in which 128 MPs supported and 95 opposed.
After this voting, the bill was sent to the President, who has now approved it.
Opposition of opposition and challenge in Supreme Court
Congress, AIMIM and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have approached the Supreme Court regarding this bill.
- Congress MP Mohammad Javed,
- AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi,
- And AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan has filed separate petitions.
He says that this law discriminates against Muslims and is a violation of their fundamental rights.
AIMPLB expressed protest, announced peaceful protest
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has also openly opposed this law. The board says that this law interferes with the religious and social structure of the community. AIMPLB has announced peaceful protests across the country, so that the government can be pressurized.
Government’s side: Muslim community will get benefit
The government says that this law is not against any religion, but its aim is to ensure transparent and effective management of Waqf properties. Especially Muslim women have been said to give more rights.
The government also claims that this law will increase the accountability of the Waqf Board and will bring transparency, which will end many disputes.
