Government cleaning
Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, while responding to the discussion on the bill in the House, dismissed the allegations of the opposition that the bill is anti -Muslim. He said that the purpose of this bill is to bring both Shia and Sunni communities together.
Rijiju also said that Prime Minister Modi’s government is committed to protect the interests of minorities, and steps are being taken to protect small minorities such as Parsi communities. He said, “More minorities are not safe than India.”
He accused the opposition of defaming the country and said that it is wrong to say that minorities in the country are not safe. After his reply, the Bill was passed by 288 votes against 232, rejecting opposition amendments in the House. Also, the Muslim Waqf (Relations) Bill 2024 was also approved by voice.
Opposition parties standing in protest
Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, DMK and other opposition parties described the bill as unconstitutional and Muslim lands.
At the same time, BJP’s allies like JDU, TDP, LJP (Ram Vilas), Janasena, Janata Dal (Secular) and AJSU party of Jharkhand have supported the bill.
In the Rajya Sabha, everyone is now eyeing 16 MPs who are not clearly in any side. His role will be important in deciding the direction of this bill.
