The six-lane old bridge located on the Sion-Panvel Highway was very congested with vehicles. That is why two new bridges of three-three lanes have been built parallel to the old bridge by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDCA). Of these, the bridge from Mankhurd to Vashi was inaugurated in last October. But despite the completion of one month of construction of the bridge from Vashi to Mankhurd, it has not been inaugurated yet.
It was earlier discussed that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Mumbai on May 1, many projects including this bridge will be inaugurated. But this was not possible. After this, the second phase was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on Friday till Worli of Metro 3. But now this bridge is built.
MSRDCA has sought time from the state government for the inauguration of the bridge. The corporation wants the inauguration of Vashi Bridge to be inaugurated between Igatpuri and Thane with the inauguration of the last phase of the prosperity route. Now the state government is trying to ensure that the last phase of the prosperity route is inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But since this effort has not been successful yet, the inauguration of Vashi Bridge has also been postponed.
Two three-lane bridges have been constructed at a cost of Rs 559 crore. The length of the bridge is 1837 meters. Once the new bridge is opened, the traffic problem between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai will be solved.
