The 7th Pay Commission’s term for central employees has been reduced to a very short time. From 1 January 2016, the Central Government implements a new pay commission every ten years. This is the reason that employees are now eagerly waiting for the 8th Pay Commission.
Importance of fitment factor
Whenever the new Pay Commission applies, the fitment factor plays an important role. This time, the implementation of the fitment factor of 2.86 will increase the basic salary of employees. Due to this, the salary of employees can range from Rs 18,000 to Rs 51,000. Along with this, it will also affect the dearness allowance (DA) and other benefits to the employees.
Impact of DA and DR
Dearness allowance (DA) and inflation are important for relief (DR) central employees, as they help to compete with inflation. When the new pay commission is implemented, the DA is merged in the old salary. The government updates it twice every year. Currently, employees are getting 55 percent DA under the 7th Pay Commission.
When is DA zero?
Central employees were getting 125 percent DA before the 7th Pay Commission came into force. But under the 7th Pay Commission, it was added to the basic salary, causing the DA to become zero. Now employees are getting 55 percent DA.
After merging the DA, starts again from zero. The impact of the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission applies to the basic salary and the total amount of DA, and after that it is started from zero.
Salary hike from fitment factor
Many options to increase salary under the 8th Pay Commission are being discussed, but the government has planned to decide it on the basis of fitment factor. The fitment factor is a multiplier, which is multiplied by the original salary and the old salary is converted into the current pay system.
This time a 2.86 fitment factor has been fixed, due to which the basic salary of employees can range from Rs 18,000 to Rs 51,000. However, the government has not yet officially confirmed this decision.
