By Monday evening, the voting for the general election in Canada is almost complete. In the initial results, Prime Minister Mark Carney’s victory of Liberal Party is almost certain. According to Canadian national broadcaster CBC, the Liberal Party is likely to get a large number of seats. However, it cannot be said right now whether the party will be able to get a majority of 172 seats.
These elections are being held at a time when Canada is entangled in a tariff war with its neighbor America. The official results of this election will come on 30 April or 1 May. Although elections were to be held in Canada officially in October 2025, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the new elections last month, saying that he needed a strong mandate to deal with Trump.
Justin Trudeau, who was the Prime Minister of Canada since 2015, resigned from his post earlier this year, after which Mark Karney was elected the new Prime Minister. The Prime Minister’s term in Canada is usually 4 years and maximum 5 years, but if the majority are lost or the Prime Minister wants to dissolve the Parliament ahead of time and make new elections. This is what Carney did.
