Volcanic eruption in the Philippines: Kanlaon volcano in the central Philippines erupted on December 9, 2024. The result was that the cloud of ash went up to three kilometers. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), this could lead to more eruptions. The danger remains for the next few days.
Thermal and X-ray camera monitors indicate that the density of hot lava and rock is very high. A large amount of hot ash and mud is coming from the top of the mountain. It’s descending hundreds of feet per second. The Civil Defense Office of the Philippines has started the work of evacuating 87 thousand people to safe places.
The volcano that has not calmed down yet may erupt again
According to PHIVOLCS, the volcano has not calmed down yet. An outbreak may occur at any time in the future. This volcano is one of the two dozen active volcanoes in the country. It exists between the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental. Earlier this volcano had erupted on 3 June this year and in December 2017.
Every day 5 to 26 earthquakes are being felt.
People did not return to the area for several days after the last explosion. This stagnation was bursting. Since then poisonous gas and hot ash were continuously coming out from it. Especially from October 19th. Every day 5 to 26 earthquakes are occurring in the area around this mountain.
Level 3 alert issued, people are being evacuated
Due to this volcano, third level alert has been declared in the surrounding areas, which means that there is a possibility of another major eruption within a week. The next scale will be level four alert. It has frequent eruptions and the most serious type is alert level five which means it can erupt at any time or day.
