Shillong, 23 November (HS). Meghalaya’s only Gambegare seat has been won by NPP candidate Mehtab. Mehtab Chandy Agitok Sangma of National People’s Party has won by a margin of 4594 votes by securing 12678 votes. He defeated Sadhir. M. Sangma (8084) of All India Trinamool Congress by 4594 votes.

Other losers included Indian National Congress candidate Jingjung M. Marak, who received 7695 votes, and Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bernard N. Marak, who received 710 votes. Marak and other candidates are included.

It is noteworthy that in the first and second rounds of counting which was going on from 8 am in the morning, NPP candidate Mehtab was leading over her rival Trinamool Congress Party candidate Sadhir. M Sangma by 11084 votes. Whereas four other candidates including Congress and BJP were lagging far behind in the second round of counting. A total of six candidates contested the election for the lone seat in Meghalaya, which was held on November 13. NPP leaders have expressed happiness over this victory of the party.
