Kuldeep Yadav found himself on the firing line after missing out on run out chance in the ongoing India vs New Zealand Champions Trophy 2025 final. Michael Bracewell and Daryl Mitchell got in each other’s way while trying to steal a single.

Jadeja who was standing at backward point made a sharp throw toward the non strikers end. Bracewell had given up but the ball failed to hit the stump. Kuldeep Yadav never got back behind the stumps which left both Jadeja and Kohli unhappy.

A similar incident had happened during the semi-final against Australia, when Kuldeep failed to run-out Alex Carey. The incident occurred when Carey drove a delivery through the cover off Kuldeep’s bowling and Kohli threw the ball immediately to keep it down to a single.

However, both Rohit and Kohli and seemingly saw an opportunity to run out Carey. Nevertheless, the Kanpur-born wrist-spinner walked back to his mark.

India tighten grip on New Zealand

Daryl Mitchell endured a painstaking journey to his half-century, reaching the milestone off 93 balls. It was not only the slowest fifty of his career but also New Zealand’s slowest in 11 years. As India’s spinners continued to apply relentless pressure, the Black Caps found it increasingly difficult to accelerate. Despite India’s fielding woes, they managed to break through when Varun Chakaravarthy bowled a beauty to dismiss Glenn Phillips.

Phillips, who was beginning to look threatening, had scored 34 off 52 balls before falling to a well-executed wrong’un, leaving New Zealand with just five wickets in hand.

Phillips had tried to inject some momentum into the innings, shifting gears while Mitchell anchored from one end. He stunned India with some powerful hits, including a six off Kuldeep Yadav—the first of New Zealand’s innings after 81 balls—before taking on Ravindra Jadeja.

Earlier, Jadeja had also made an impact by trapping Tom Latham lbw, ending a crucial 33-run stand. Kuldeep Yadav then produced back-to-back breakthroughs, first dismissing Rachin Ravindra and then deceiving Kane Williamson into offering a simple return catch.
