Villagers Chase Away Police Team Over Mining Lease Dispute in Chhatarpur | FP Photo

Chhatarpur (Madhya Pradesh): A violent conflict erupted on Friday in Kuti village when a joint team of police and administrative officials arrived to hand over possession of a disputed mining lease. The lease, granted by the Mineral Department for Khasra number 235 on a hill near the village, has faced strong opposition from locals, who allege procedural violations. Angered by the team’s arrival, villagers armed with sticks and stones confronted them, forcing the officials to retreat.

The protestors claim the lease approval disregarded legal protocols and emphasized that the matter is still pending in court. The team, which included the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Tehsildar, and Mineral Officer, arrived with police from three stations to ensure the leaseholder’s possession.

However, the villagers’ mounting anger and protests compelled them to abandon the attempt. For weeks, villagers have been resisting the lease, citing environmental and legal concerns. Friday’s escalation underscores the growing discontent among locals. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident.

Singh issued the order for the public welfare because Chinese Manjha often caused accidents. It has been observed during Makar Sankranti that many people use Chinese Manjha for flying kites. Chinese Manjha is made of glass powder which is very dangerous and poses a hazard to public health. The district administration and police will keep an eye on the use of Chinese Manjha.
