Renowned Indian sports journalist Vikrant Gupta has become a fan favourite in Pakistan, with people in Lahore chanting “Vikrant Gupta Zindabad” during his recent visit to cover the Champions Trophy 2025. The warm welcome he received highlights how cricket continues to act as a bridge between the two nations despite political tensions.

This visit marks Gupta’s first trip to Pakistan, and he has been full of praise for the hospitality of the Pakistani people. A viral video circulating on social media shows the journalist expressing gratitude for the love and respect.

The Champions Trophy serve as reminders of how the sport can unite even the fiercest of competitors. Gupta’s visit shares a strong message of new doors of India-Pakistan partnership opening up, and all eyes would be on his other whereabouts in the den of Men in Green.

Pakistan journalist criticises Vikram Gupta of not covering Champions Trophy

However Vikrant Gupta’s visit to Lahore and spending time with people instead of covering the tournament was not well received by a Pakistani journalist named Ejaz Wasim Bakhri.

Bakhri has accuse the Indian journalist of spreading false news about Pakistan being ill-prepared to host CT and not actually visiting the Lahore/Rawalpindi stadiums to cover the matches.

He said, “Neither did you see the Pindi Stadium nor did you go inside the Gadaffi Stadium and watch the Champions Trophy match between Afghanistan and England . You went there twice, you went to Liberty Roundabout a day before and then again the next day, at a distance of about half a kilometre from there, but did not go to the match between Afghanistan and England that was going on for eight hours.
