Bollywood film producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra recently recalled how he once abused lyricist Swanand Kirkire for changing the lyrics of a song from his 2005 film, Parineeta. Chopra shared that Kirkire was moved to tears post the incident, leaving everyone worried.
On Tuesday, during the launch of the song Chal Zero Pe Chalte Hain from his upcoming film, Zero Se Restart, Chopra recalled how the song, Raat Hamari Toh in Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt’s Parineeta was made.
“We were sitting in my terrace. And Swanand kept changing words like ‘aitha’, and ‘saanjh’ to ‘shaam’, and I was furious. But he said that no one would understand these lyrics. So I told him, ‘Bh****ke, tu mere terrace pe baithke isko simplify kar raha hai? Tu producer hai ki main producer hoon?’. He kept looking at me and I was like, ‘Producer kaun hai be*****od? My money will be wasted or yours if this doesn’t work?’. But then, Swanand started crying,” Chopra recalled.
Chopra went on to say that he asked Shantanu Moitra to calm Swanand down and not take his abuses seriously. “I felt I was a bit too harsh on him. But he kept crying and said, ‘Sir, wherever I have gone in this city, people have always asked me to simplify the lyrics to sell the song. But you’re the first one who asked me to retain the original lyrics’. Swanand kept weeping for that reason,’ the filmmaker shared.
Within no time, the video of Chopra narrating the incident went viral online, and netizens did not miss the expressions of Shreya Ghoshal, who was standing next to the filmmaker on stage. When Chopra abused, Shreya was visibly flabbergasted, and Shaan too kept laughing in the background.
Meanwhile, Zero Se Restart is all se to release on December 13 and it will show the making of Chopra’s most-talked-about film, 12th Fail, which starred Vikrant Massey in the lead role.
