Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A book consisting of the budget speeches of the finance ministers from 2004 to 2013 has been published. The budget speeches delivered by the finance ministers of the BJP government in the ten years have been included in the book published by Vidhan Sabha. But it has also pulled up the Congress government. The book mentions the financial difficulties the state was in from 1993 to 2003.
According to the book, during the tenure of Digvijaya Singh as chief minister, the state was financially down and out. The financial problems mentioned in the book were also published in a white paper. The Congress is making the same allegations these days against the government as the BJP did against the Digvijaya Singh-led government in the white paper.
In the white paper, it was mentioned that even after 48 years of independence Madhya Pradesh was counted as one of the most backward states. The financial growth rate of the state was far behind the other states. The country’s growth rate was 6.5% from 1993 to 2003, but the state’s was 3.69% during that period. In terms of poverty, MP was just ahead of Bihar and Odisha.
According to the book, in 1993-1994, the state’s debt was Rs 6,928, which shot up to 32, 762 crore in 2003-04. In 2003-04, the government had to take overdraft of 61 days. All public sector units, corporations and boards were running in loss. During the current budget session, the legislators of the ruling party may pull up the opposition for the financial conditions in those days.
