Ranji Trophy, Ajinkya Rahane: Many controversies are coming up regarding umpiring in the Ranji Trophy being played at present. Something similar happened during the Mumbai-Jammu and Kashmir match in which the dispute arose due to the clash with Shreyas Iyer’s umpires. In this match, Rahane was returning to the pavilion after being dismissed and Shardul Thakur was coming to bat in his place. But after five minutes, the umpire called Rahane back to the ground and sent Thakur out.

What was the whole controversy?

Actually, this incident took place in the 25th over of Mumbai’s second innings. On Friday, the second day of the match, Omar Nazir Rahane was caught by the wicketkeeper. All the controversy started from here. Rahane returned to the dressing room after getting out and Shardul Thakur came to the ground. Meanwhile, the umpire saw the replay. It took some time and after seeing some replays, the umpire found that the ball on which Rahane was out was no-ball.

After this, the field umpire asked Thakur to go out and called Rahane again for batting. When Rahane came on the ground, the umpire told him that I had asked the Mumbai captain to stop, but you (Ajinkya Rahane) did not listen to me.

What does the rule say?

According to the rules, if the umpire feels that the batsman leaves the field without giving out and assumes that the umpire can call him back and declare the ball a dead ball. For this reason, the umpire called Rahane back. However, Rahane could not last long and in the second over, Paras Dogra was caught out. But after this incident, questions have been raised about umpiring in domestic cricket once again.
