California is battling worst-ever wildfires in its history right now | X (@JWheelertv)

Horrific and even heartbreaking videos are emerging from California in the US where hundreds of acres of land is at the mercy of massive wildfires which are being called worst in the state’s history. Even the glitzy town of Hollywood hasn’t been spared and homes of celebrities like Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore and others have been engulfed by fire. The flames haven’t been brought under control in spite of all-out efforts by the state’s fire services.

Like humans, flames are hurting California’s wildlife too.

One such video, showing a fawn or a baby deer has led to concerned reactions online. In a video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the baby deer can be seen limping and trying to make its way to where it feels its safe. The fawn is certainly of the age where he would be under the protection of his mother. But to the viewers’ horror, there are no signs of the baby deer’s mother in the video.

The baby deer, with its fur slightly blackened perhaps due to smoke from the wildfire can be seen walking in the video. It stops for half-a-second, appearing to look around and ask silently for help. But it soon resumes its walk. The video says that the footage was recorded in Altadena, California. Altadena is in Los Angeles County.

More than 100,000 people in California are under orders to evacuate at the time of publishing of this story.

California Governor Gavin Newsom took to X to say that more than 7500 firefighters were fighting the flames across the state, 1162 fire engines and 23 water tenders were deployed. Six air tankers were pressed into service alongwith 53 dozers and 31 helicopters.
