Veteran Tamil and Malayalam actor, who worked in several hit films in 1970s and 1980s, passed away. He had been battling cancer and was admitted to a private hospital in Velachery, Chennai, on Wednesday (April 2). He breathed his last at around 9 am this morning (April 4). He was 71.
According to media reports, the news of his death was confirmed by his son. Following the news of his passing, fans have taken to social media to express their condolences to his family.
Ravikumar’s mortal remains will be taken to his residence in Valasaravakkam, Chennai, and the final rites will be held on Saturday.
The veteran actor had acted in over a hundred Malayalam and Tamil films, as well as television shows.
Ravikumar, the son of Thrissur natives KMK Menon and R Bharathi, was born in Chennai. He made his film debut in 1967 with Indulekha. However, it was the 1976 Malayalam film Amma, directed by M Krishnan Nair, that brought him recognition.
Some of his notable films include Lisa, Avalude Ravukal, Angadi, Sarppam, Thee Kadal, and Anupallavi.
Apart from his film career, Ravikumar made a notable mark in the Tamil television industry, featuring in popular serials like Vani Rani, En Iniya Thozhiye, Chocolate, Koodathayi, and Chellamma.
More recently, Ravikumar appeared in an extended cameo in the TV show Kannedhirey Thondrinal on Kalaignar TV.
