Mumbai: The onset of the current financial year has been slow in terms of growth of retail vehicle sales in the country. In the first quarter of FY 2025-26 i.e. April, the total retail sales of auto rose 2.95% to 22,87,952 vehicles on an annual basis. In April 2024, the figure was 22,22,463.

According to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), the highest sales growth in vehicles was seen in three -wheeler vehicles, while two -wheeler and SUV figures were 2.25 percent and 1.50 percent respectively. According to Fada data, tractor sales have increased by 7.50 percent, while commercial vehicles sales have declined by one percent.

The sale of two -wheelers last month was 16867744, which was 1649591 in April last year. Sales of Utaru vehicles in April 2024 were 3,44,594 units, which increased by 1.55 percent to 3,49,939 units in April this year.

Fada President CS Vigneshwar said that in addition to Chaitra Navratri, April was a positive month for the auto industry due to festivals like Akhtris and Baisakhi.

The demand for two -wheelers remained strong amid mixed economic challenges. Sales of two -wheelers increased by 11.84 percent in April compared to March.

Due to the rabby season crop being encouraging, there was a rapid increase in interrogation of dealers in rural areas. This year, FDA has expressed cautious optimism about auto retail sales in a short term amidst the expectations of more monsoon than normal and the possibility of reduction in debt rates due to liquidity measures.
