Palghar, Maharashtra: Residents of Vasant Nagri held a mass protest on Wednesday following the tragic death of a young boy in an electrical accident at an unauthorized carnival held on their community playground. The Vasant Nagri Federation is accusing the municipal administration of illegal commercialization and blatant disregard for residents’ rights.

The federation claims the municipal body continues to issue permits for commercial events such as weddings, carnivals, and private parties on the Vasant Nagri Playground, despite recent High Court orders prohibiting such activities. These events, according to residents, result in noise pollution, traffic congestion, waste accumulation, and an increase in drug and alcohol abuse, effectively depriving children and senior citizens of their rightful open space.

“Tragedy struck last night when a young boy lost his life in an electrical accident at an unauthorized carnival,” stated Sandeep Mayekar, Vice President of the Vasant Nagri Co. Hsg. Soc. Fed. Ltd. “This is a direct result of administrative negligence. We will no longer tolerate the blatant disregard for our rights.”

Residents are particularly incensed by the continued commercialization of the playground, which they consider a crucial community space. They argue that the municipal administration’s actions are in direct violation of High Court orders.

“The Vasant Nagri Playground belongs to the people, and we will reclaim it,” Mayekar asserted.

The federation is demanding that the municipal administration cease all commercial activities on the playground and uphold the High Court orders. They have also demanded accountability for the fatal electrical accident.
