Mumbai: An Indian couple from Vasai, near Mumbai, Gerald and Priya Pereira, met with a fatal accident on May 10 in Badian, a town in the central Philippines. The couple had travelled to the Philippines for a vacation, hoping to enjoy a peaceful and refreshing break from their daily lives. However, their holiday turned into a devastating tragedy.
Details Of The Accident
According to a Lokmat Times report, they were riding a two-wheeler when they were hit by a truck. The impact caused them to crash into an electric pole, killing both of them instantly. This information was shared by the chief priest of St Thomas Church in Vasai, where the couple were parishioners.
Local authorities in the Philippines have initiated an investigation and are working through the necessary legal and administrative procedures. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy is coordinating efforts to bring the couple’s mortal remains to India, so their family and community can bid them a proper farewell.

In a separate incident, a female school teacher from Thane district also lost her life in a road accident while on a school tour in Bali, Indonesia. Shweta Pushkar Pathak, a respected educator from B K Birla Public School in Kalyan, died in the tragic accident on Saturday, May 10. The details of the accident have not been fully disclosed, but the school authorities confirmed her death and stated that the formal process of bringing her remains back to India is currently underway.
A school representative shared that they are cooperating with local Indonesian authorities to expedite the repatriation process. The school issued a heartfelt message on its official website, expressing deep sorrow over the sudden loss of their beloved teacher. They described her passing as untimely and tragic.
