India’s 13-year-old sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, finally found his feet in the ongoing Men’s U-19 Asia Cup with a scintillating knock against hosts UAE at Sharjah on Wednesday. 

After struggling with scores of 1 and 23 in earlier matches against Pakistan and Japan, Suryavanshi roared back to form, smashing 76 runs off just 46 balls, laced with 3 fours and 6 glorious  sixes. Suryavanshi was well supported by Ayush Mhatre as India U-19 qualified for the Men’s U-19 Asia up semi-final after beating UAE U-19 by 10 wickets.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Outclassed UAE U-19 Bowlers

Batting first, UAE struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for 137. Akshat Rai (26) and Muhammed Rayan (35) were the only notable contributors for the home side as Yudhajit Guha claimed 3 wickets. He was supported by Chetan Sharma and Hardik Raj, who took two wickets each.

India started their run chase in aggressive batting, with openers Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre dominating the UAE bowlers. India chased down the target of 138 runs within 16.1 overs. Mhatre played an anchor role, scoring an unbeaten 67 off 51 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. 

Meanwhile, Suryavanshi stole the show, blasting his way to a match-winning innings. The pair’s unbroken partnership sealed a 10-wicket victory for India, securing their spot in the semi-finals.

For his all-round performance Ayush Mhatre was awarded with the Man of the Match Award. With this win India finished at second position with 2 wins after 3 games. The only loss for the Boys in Blue came against arch- rivals Pakistan in the opening fixture.

Suryavanshi’s knock not only revived his form but also showcased the talent that saw him become the youngest player ever signed in the IPL. Bought by Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, Suryavanshi is proving his mettle on the big stage. With the knockout games ahead, the young prodigy will look to maintain this momentum and leave a lasting mark on the tournament.
