Gorakhpur, January 2: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remarked on Thursday that while previous governments focused on stifling development by shutting down industries and factories, the BJP-led double-engine government is actively creating an environment conducive to progress through new initiatives and constructions.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying and inauguration ceremony for nine development projects worth ₹1,533 crore in Gorakhpur, the CM highlighted examples like the revival of the Gorakhpur fertilizer factory and the Pipraich sugar mill. “Previous governments had closed these facilities and were preparing to sell them. The double-engine government has proven they can be revitalized and made operational again,” he said.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Uttar Pradesh is poised to accelerate its development in the new year under the double-engine government. “Job and employment opportunities will grow rapidly, ensuring our youth no longer need to migrate elsewhere for work,” he added.

During the event at Janta Inter College, Chargawan, the CM inaugurated five development projects worth ₹53.74 crore and laid the foundation stone for four projects valued at ₹1,478.81 crore. He remarked that these initiatives would further strengthen the vision of a modern and prosperous Gorakhpur in the years to come.

While highlighting the transformative changes brought by the double-engine government, CM Yogi Adityanath remarked, “During the Samajwadi Party government, children were dying in large numbers due to encephalitis. These children were the trust of society and the nation, but those who divided society along caste lines paid no attention. Tragically, 90 percent of the children who succumbed to encephalitis belonged to Dalit and minority communities.”

The Chief Minister stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the double-engine government has successfully eradicated encephalitis from the state.

Referring to the development of Gorakhpur, he said, “Today’s Gorakhpur reflects the vision of a modern Uttar Pradesh and a modern India. During the SP government, there was no electricity, no access to proper healthcare, and even BRD Medical College was in a deplorable state, unable to provide adequate treatment.”

He further noted that in 1990, the SP and Congress government shut down the Gorakhpur fertilizer factory. The Pipraich sugar mill was also closed, with plans underway to sell it. Roads were in such poor condition that it was hard to tell whether they were covered in potholes or the potholes were part of the road. Ramgarhtal was nothing more than a garbage dump.

“Now, under the double-engine government, Ramgarhtal has become a thriving tourist destination. The Gorakhpur fertilizer factory and Pipraich sugar mill have been revived. BRD Medical College has been upgraded, and AIIMS is operational in Gorakhpur. The city is now connected with two-lane, four-lane, and six-lane roads,” the CM said. He added that once the work on the Godhdhoiya Nala project is completed, the issue of waterlogging will be resolved permanently.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of having a passion for work and a sense of accountability toward society, stating that with these qualities, all challenges can be overcome. He highlighted the significant developments in Gorakhpur, mentioning the operational Pipraich sugar mill, a functional fertilizer factory, and the newly opened zoo.

“Gorakhpur now enjoys excellent road connectivity with key cities like Lucknow and Varanasi. This development has brought new employment opportunities to the region,” he said. The Chief Minister noted that over the past five years, Gorakhpur has witnessed investments worth ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 crore. These investments have led to the establishment of industries, providing thousands of youth with guaranteed employment.

He further added, “Today, Gorakhpur is home to four universities, and a veterinary college is also under construction, further strengthening the region’s educational and economic landscape.”

The Chief Minister stated that this year is set to be crucial, marking the beginning of significant development works. He mentioned that the veterinary college being established in Gorakhpur will provide training in animal husbandry. Additionally, an agricultural university is being set up in Kushinagar to offer training in modern agricultural technologies to farmers, alongside agricultural studies. He also highlighted that farmers will have the opportunity to learn new methods at the newly renovated agricultural school in Gorakhpur.

CM Yogi Adityanath stated that the double-engine BJP government is drawing global attention by focusing on both development and the preservation of heritage. “This government is fully committed to the progress and preservation of our cultural heritage,” he remarked.

He announced that the first Mahakumbh of the century will be held in Prayagraj from Paush Purnima on January 13 to Mahashivratri on February 26, calling it a momentous event that has come after 144 years. “The government has made elaborate arrangements for the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh. Devotees from across the country and the world will gather here, experiencing the unparalleled hospitality of Uttar Pradesh.”

He further highlighted that last year, after a 500-year wait, Lord Ramlala was installed in Ayodhya. This year, with the Mahakumbh, Uttar Pradesh will once again captivate the world by connecting development with its rich heritage.

Extending his wishes for the new year, as well as for the upcoming Khichdi Mela and Mahakumbh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of the double-engine government in solving problems and advancing the development process. He stated, “Rapid development can only be achieved when there is a government with similar ideologies at both the center and the state.”

The Chief Minister stressed the need for self-discipline to connect with development, ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach every eligible individual. He highlighted the importance of inclusive participation, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas aims to ensure that every deprived person, farmer, woman, and youth benefits from the schemes, without discrimination.

“The double-engine government is fully committed to this mission,” he said. “We hope that the people’s blessings will continue to support the double-engine government in its journey of development and heritage.”

Congratulating the farmers on the renovation of the Rajkiya Krishi Vidyalaya, CM Yogi noted that the school, originally built in 1932, had fallen into disrepair. “With the new building, farmers will now have a convenient opportunity to receive training in modern agricultural technology and learn about government schemes,” he added.

Inaugurating the strengthening of the Nausadh-Kalesar embankment on the Rapti River, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recalled the devastating flood of 1998, during which the embankment broke. He noted, “It took 25 years to strengthen this embankment. An entire era and generation have passed.”

He added that had the BJP government been in power earlier, this work would have been completed much sooner. The Chief Minister assured that the government is committed to providing a permanent solution to the flood problem by strengthening all the embankments across the state.

Linking the foundation stone laying for the Gorakhpur-Pipraich four-lane project to a new phase of development, CM Yogi emphasized that it would give a fresh impetus to progress. He explained, “Previously, it took 20 minutes to travel between Gorakhpur and Pipraich, but with the new four-lane road, the travel time will be reduced to just seven to eight minutes.” He also highlighted the convenience that will be provided by the two new bridges being constructed over the Rapti River.

Speaking at the event, State Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi praised the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, stating that under his guidance, Uttar Pradesh has experienced comprehensive transformation through all-round development. “CM Yogi has set a new standard of good governance, not just in the country, but across the world,” he said. Minister Shahi highlighted the historic measures taken by the government in the interest of farmers under CM Yogi’s leadership.

He also expressed gratitude for the decision made by the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, not to increase the prices of DAP fertilizer. He added that the Central Government’s provision of a ₹3,850 crore subsidy for DAP would increase the subsidy per bag to ₹2,500, benefiting farmers.

The event was attended by several notable figures, including Pipraich MLA Mahendrapal Singh, Mayor Dr. Manglesh Shrivastava, MLA Fateh Bahadur Singh, Vipin Singh, Dr. Vimlesh Paswan, BJP Kisan Morcha State President Kameshwar Singh, BJP District President Yudhishthir Singh, and Metropolitan President Rajesh Gupta, among others.
