Major progress has been made regarding the Gwalior-Agra Greenfield Expressway project. The path for this important expressway has been cleared after permission was granted for felling of 755 trees in the Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ). This 88 km long six-lane high-speed corridor will take trade and tourism to new heights, connecting Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Permission granted for cutting of bridges and trees
- The project has gained momentum after other important approvals including the hanging bridge on Chambal river.
- A total of 4,000 trees will be cut, but 1.24 lakh trees will be planted in their place.
- 95% compensation for land acquisition has already been distributed.
- Pre-construction work has been completed up to 85%.
Benefits of the project: Will connect three states
This expressway will provide better connectivity between Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.
- Better connectivity of West UP and MP:
- Travel between Agra and Gwalior will be smooth and fast.
- Trade, tourism and industrial activities will get a boost.
Budget and distance reduction of Agra-Gwalior Expressway
- Project budget: ₹4613 crore.
- Total length: 87 kilometers.
- Current travel time: Two and a half to three hours to cover the distance of 121 kilometres.
- Future travel time: After the construction of the new expressway, this distance will be covered in just one hour.
Construction of 6 lane high-speed corridor
- Manufacturing Method:
This project is being prepared on Build Operate Transfer (BOT) model. - Route extension:
- The expressway will start from Deori village in Agra and reach Dholpur, Morena, and Surera village in Gwalior.
- It will spread across four districts, passing through 30 villages of Rajasthan and MP.
- Infrastructure:
- 47 culverts, four small bridges and five big bridges will be built.
Connectivity to Inner Ring Road
Inner Ring Road will be built to connect Gwalior Highway to Yamuna Expressway and Agra-Lucknow Expressway.
- Construction in three stages:
- The first two phases have been completed.
- The Inner Ring Road will seamlessly connect Gwalior Highway, Yamuna Expressway and Agra-Lucknow Expressway.
- This highway will also be connected to Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Bundelkhand Expressway.
