A merchant from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for working as a detective for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the state’s Special Task Force (STF) gave this information on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Shahzad, who was detained in Moradabad after receiving intelligence about his suspected role in border cross smuggling and espionage.
According to STF, Shahzad had gone to Pakistan several times and was involved in smuggling cosmetics, spices, clothes and other items. Officials said that these smuggling works used to serve as a mask for its spy activities.
Detective network exposed
The agency said that Shehzad was actively sharing with its masters in Pakistan with sensitive information related to India’s national security. He also helped the ISI operatives in India by providing local SIM cards and financial assistance to the henchmen in India.
Investigation also revealed that Shahzad helped many people from Rampur and other districts of Uttar Pradesh go to Pakistan. The STF said that these people were recruited by ISI agents and they were sent across the border by arranging visas from Pakistan. The STF is continuing the investigation into the limit of Shehzad’s network and its operation.
Jyoti Malhotra’s arrest
Shahzad’s arrest took place after a similar case related to a YouTuber in Haryana, which was recently detained on charges of sharing sensitive information with Pakistan’s intelligence network. Jyoti Malhotra, who is known for her YouTube channel ‘Travel with JO’, has more than 300,000 subscribers, it is said that she maintained contact with a Pakistani employee posted at Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. The Government of India had expelled the Pakistani officer on 13 May, citing alleged involvement in espionage activities.
Malhotra had earlier uploaded several videos of his visit to Pakistan, including ‘Indian girl in Pakistan’, ‘Indian girl searching for Lahore’, ‘Indian girl in Katas Raj temple’ and ‘Indian girl in luxury bus in Pakistan’. These developments have come to light at a time when tension between India and Pakistan has increased after the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 people lost their lives.
