This action is part of the social media review being conducted by the DOS including the Consulate Officers. As a result, new applicants will be examined for F (Educational Studies), M (Professional Studies) or J (Exchange) Visa and can be denied admission in the US. Then, Indian and other students may also face the cancellation of visas for Insta ‘Like’.

A recent report states that the US will have 1.1 million international students during the 2023-24 academic year, out of which 331,000 will be from India. According to a report, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has launched an AI-Interested initiative called ‘Catch and Rivok’ to cancel the visa of suspected foreign nationals supporting Hamas or other terrorist organizations. Under this initiative, more than 300 foreign students visas have been canceled in just three weeks.
