Kathmandu, 3 December (Hindustan Reporter). America’s Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu is visiting Nepal on December 9 and 10. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is currently on a tour of China. The US minister’s visit to Nepal is considered important amid discussions about Nepal signing the implementation agreement of China’s ambitious project Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). However, before Nepal, Lu will also visit India and Sri Lanka from 03 to 08 December.
According to the US Embassy in Kathmandu, Assistant Foreign Minister Lu will also meet top leaders and youth leaders during his visit to Nepal. The meeting will focus on environmental protection, women empowerment, cultural preservation and increasing support for the prosperity of Nepal.
The US believes that his visit will strengthen relations with partner countries in South Asia and strengthen regional prosperity. Lu is one of the influential assistant ministers of the US State Department. He has visited Nepal thrice before. The last time he came to Nepal was last June.
Earlier, he had visited Nepal when the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project related to the American cooperation project was in the process of being approved and all the communist parties of Nepal were against it. After this, he came to discuss making Nepal a participant in the State Partnership Program (SPP) proposed by America, but the then Nepal government had rejected the proposal of SPP.
