President Trump and PM Modi: US President Donald Trump has suddenly changed his stand towards India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump said at the White House, “Prime Minister Modi had come here recently and we have always been very good friends.” This statement comes at a time when the US is preparing to impose retaliation on many countries including India from 2 April.
Trump described Prime Minister Modi as “a very intelligent person” and “my very good friend” and said that the ongoing business fee talks between America and India will give very good results. The comment came on the same day when bilateral trade was discussed between Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mistry and US Deputy Foreign Minister Christopher Landau. The discussion also included the issue of reducing obstacles in balanced business relations.
“We have always been good friends”
Trump said, “India is one of the most tariffs in the world. He is very intelligent. Modi is a very intelligent person and my very good friends. Our conversation was very good. I think it will do a very good job between India and our country.” Pointing to Modi, he said, “I want to say that you have a great Prime Minister.” It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Modi visited the US in February and held bilateral discussion with Trump. Meanwhile, the two sides announced a plan to interacted on the multi-regional bilateral trade agreement mutually beneficial.
Negotiations between the two countries continue
Trump had earlier accused India of imposing highly high tariffs and said that now America will also impose counter tariffs. Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Ministry stated that Mistry and Lando discussed increasing bilateral trade, defense and technology cooperation as well as issues related to immigration and migration. US State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce said the two officials “discussed efforts to reduce obstacles in obtaining fair and balanced bilateral trade relations” and discussed strengthening cooperation in defense and technology. American Assistant Trade Representative Brendon Lynch is currently on a visit to India and is discussing the outline and provisions of the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) with Indian dialogues.
