In what has been another appointment of person of Indian-origin on a top post in US, President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel for the post of director of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, the social media platform he himself owns.

In his post, Trump had words of praise for Patel who he said investigated the so-called “Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax.” The president-elect also called Patel an “America First” fighter and said he has spent his career defending justice, exposing corruption and protecting the American people.

“I am proud to announce that Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel will serve as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending justice, and protecting the American people. He played a pivotal role in uncovering the ‘Russia, Russia, Russia’ hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution. Kash did an incredible job during my first term, where he served as Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense, Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council. Kash has also tried over 60 jury trials,” said Trump in his post on Truth Social.

“This FBI will end the growing crime epidemic in America, dismantle migrant criminal gangs, and stop the evil scourge of human and drug trafficking across the border,” Trump stated, adding that “Kash will work under our great Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to restore Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI.”

Who Is Kash Patel?

Kash Patel (44) is a former Republican House staffer. He has served in several high-ranking staff positions in US defense and intelligence communities when Donald Trump was president between 2016 and 2020. Patel is considered to be among the top Trump loyalists.

Patel’s family hails from east Africa but has roots in India’s Gujarat.

Patel was born and raised in Garden City, New York in 1980. Raised Hindu, his senior-yearbook quote was by Jewish theologian Abraham Joshua Heschel: “Racism is man’s gravest threat – the maximum of hatred for a minimum reason.”

The US Department of Defense website has Patel’s profile. According to the info, he completed his bachelor’s at University of Richmond. He returned to New York to earn law degree. He also completed a certificate course in International Law in University College London Faculty of Laws, UK.
