Gulmarg Fashion Show: On Monday, there was a ruckus over a recently held fashion show in Gulmarg in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. The show was held in the month of Ramadan, resentment among many political parties and religious leaders. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the program as ‘obscene’ and said that it has hurt religious sentiments.
As soon as the House’s proceedings started, the National Conference (NC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and two independent MLAs raised the issue and asked how such a program could be organized during Ramadan. He demanded an inquiry into the case.
Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah ordered an inquiry
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reacted and said that the government has already ordered an inquiry into the matter. He clarified that it was a private program and no permission was taken from the government for this.
Omar Abdullah said, ‘This private program organized in Gulmarg has hurt people’s sentiments. These types of programs should never happen. The government has nothing to do with this fashion show. The organizers did not take any permission from us. It was a completely private program, which was held inside the hotel.
He said that if any rule has been violated in this incident, the matter should be assigned to the police. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) termed the entire controversy as unnecessary and targeted NC, PDP and some religious leaders.
BJP defended
BJP MLA Ranbir Singh Pathania said, ‘Fire of extremism is being provoked in the Kashmir Valley. We need to develop acceptance towards all ideas and approaches. After this statement of the BJP MLA, a hot debate has started between NC-Congress, PDP and BJP. The uproar continued in the House for about 25 minutes. Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather appealed to the members to maintain peace several times and said that the Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry, so the issue cannot be discussed in the House.

On March 7, the famous designer brand ‘Shivan and Naresh’ organized a fashion show in Gulmarg on the occasion of its 15th anniversary. His ski wear collection was performed in this program. As soon as videos and pictures of this fashion show went viral on social media, people have questioned the organizing such program during Ramadan.
