Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Unseasonal rains in the past 24 hours have caused massive damage to the crops in MP’s Jabalpur. The fields have overflowed with water, damaging mainly pea and wheat crops. Fields are waterlogged, leaving farmers with little hope of salvaging their harvests.

As a result, farmers of the area are distressed. The farmers have demanded compensation from the government, alleging that no government representatives have visited their fields even 24 hours after the rain, and there has been no help.

According to information, pea crops have suffered the most, with fields completely submerged. Wheat crops have also been heavily affected. Farmers estimate an investment of ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 per acre for pea cultivation, but recovering even the input cost now seems improbable.

Jabalpur’s Additional Collector Misha Singh, speaking to the press, confirmed that crops in Shahpura and Patan areas were damaged due to heavy rain. Authorities have been instructed to conduct surveys, and compensation will be provided based on the findings.

Farmer Union raises concerns

Farmers expressed dissatisfaction with the delayed response from officials. Farmer unions have also raised concerns, stating that while satellite technology is used to monitor farm activities like stubble burning and water pump usage, the administration has failed to address visible flooding in fields.
