ISLAMABAD: An unprecedented march by workers and supporters of Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demanding the release of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was stopped from entering Islamabad. Meanwhile, the police converted the capital into a fort.
This public anger rally started from Lahore and passed through various cities of the country. In this, prominent leaders moved forward sitting on motorcycles. PTI workers, supporters and public leaders on both sides joined the slow-moving motorcade. The rally was led by PTI leader Omar Ayub and Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Frontier) province Ali Amin Gandpur. But due to the indiscriminate use of tear gas, they too had to stop.
The march proceeded from three directions – Atka Bridge, Kutch Interchange and Ghazi Barotha Canal. But the police placed iron barricades on three sides. The rally had to be stopped due to tear gas shells burst one after the other. When the rally stopped near Atka Bridge, he told the rally members coming from three sides that we have stopped now but will move ahead later. Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi was surprised. He asked Karan to move ahead and said, ‘We are wasting time.’
