Unique initiative of Indian Railways: Passengers have been getting free food in Sachkhand Express for 29 years

Indian Railways is constantly working towards providing better facilities to passengers. For this reason, Indian Railways is counted among the major rail services of the world. Passengers not only get the facility of travel during the journey, but also have better food and drink facilities. Today, passengers can get food on their seat in the train. Fragrant food can be ordered through the IRCTC website or mobile app.

But do you know that there is a train in which free and full food is being provided to passengers for the last 29 years? This train is Amritsar-Nanded Sachkhand Express, in which breakfast, lunch and dinner are given free of cost to passengers through anchor.

No worry about eating, 2081 km journey

Sachkhand Express travels 2081 km and takes about 33 hours. The train also has a pantry car, but food is not cooked in it, because passengers get food through anchor at stations. Passengers do not need to bring food with them.

Stops at 39 stations, anchor arrangements at 6

This train stops at 39 stations, out of which anchor has been arranged for passengers at 6 stations. The stoppage has been planned in such a way that passengers can take food comfortably. Anchor facility is available in both directions at New Delhi and Dabra stations. Passengers are aware of this service, so they carry utensils with them.

Food for 2000 passengers daily

In this train, from General to AC coach, passengers of all classes take advantage of the langar service. Food is arranged for about 2000 people every day. Different dishes are served daily in food such as curry-rice, chickpeas, lentils, khichdi, potato-cabbage etc. The cost of this service is met with donations coming in gurdwaras. The service is so regular that in 29 years there is not a single day when the anchor is not served, no matter how late the train arrived.

History of train

Sachkhand Express runs between Amritsar and Nanded. This train was launched once a week in 1995. Later in 1997-98 it was run twice a week and again five times. Since 2007, this train has been running seven days a week. The langar service was started by Sikh traders, which was later continued by local gurdwaras regularly.
