Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh): Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia faced an unexpected attack by a swarm of bees during an event at Madhya Pradesh’s Madhav National Park in Shivpuri on Saturday.
Over a dozen people were stung including the security personnel in the incident. Fortunately, no severe injuries were reported, and the minister’s security team managed to evacuate everyone safely.
It is said that the minister was present at the event to inaugurate a project. However, despite efforts to manage the situation, Scindia had to leave the venue without inaugurating the planned project.

Machine for removing water hyacinth was to be inaugurated
The minister was at Chandpatha Lake to inaugurate a dredging machine for the purpose of removing water hyacinths from the water body.
The event took place on a floating platform where only selective individuals, including the Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar and local BJP leaders, were allowed.
As Scindia approached the machine, the bees attacked all those present at the spot.
What is water hyacinth?

Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is a floating aquatic plant native to the Amazon Basin also know as ‘Terror of Bengal’.
It has attractive purple-violet flowers and the plant has become invasive in many parts of the world due to its ability of rapid growth and to form dense mats on water surfaces.

Focus on boosting tourism at Chandpatha Lake
It is suspected that the sound and wind from a drone, used for security and filming, might have agitated the bees, although this has not been officially confirmed.
Chandpatha Lake, declared a Ramsar site, has seen a decline in tourism due to the water hyacinth problem, The ‘Terror of Bengal’ has also disrupted boating activities in the lake. The dredging machine worth ₹1.2 crore, was intended to clear the lake and boost tourism.
