Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addresses a debate on the 75th anniversary of India’s Constitution adoption in the Lok Sabha during the Parliament’s Winter session, in New Delhi, Friday, Dec. 13, 2024.
On Thursday, Union Defence Minister and BJP leader Rajnath Singh started a discussion on the ‘Glorious Journey of 75 Years of The Constitution of India’ in the Lok Sabha.
“We are fortunate to be witness to Amrut Mahotsav (75th anniversary) of our Constitution. In the last few years attempts have been made to project the Constitution as a contribution of a particular party,” he said.
The Lok Sabha, the Parliament’s lower house, is scheduled to gather today for a two-day vigorous discussion to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s Constitution adoption.
The discussion on the Constitution is scheduled for Lok Sabha on December 13 and 14, followed by a corresponding session in Rajya Sabha on December 16 and 17. A number of prominent leaders from the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led INDIA coalition will take part in the conversation.
This arises during the “battle of narratives” between the governing and opposing factions, which has stymied the usual operations of the Parliament in this winter session, set to end on December 20.
Sources within the party indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will provide a response on Saturday, concluding the special Constitution debate. In the meantime, Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to initiate the debate in Rajya Sabha on Monday.
On Thursday, both the BJP and Congress released three-line whips to their MPs, instructing them to attend the house on December 13-14 for the planned debate on the Constitution in India.
