Opposition members on Saturday created a ruckus in the Parliament as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her record eight budget demanding discussion on the Maha Kumbh stampede. Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav led the demand for discussion prompting Speaker Om Birla to name him and asking him to follow the procedure. Opposition members after raising slogans, staged a walkout.
Speaker Om Birla asked opposition members to return to their seats and not raise slogans. He said members would get a chance to raise issues during a discussion on the motion of thanks to the President. However, opposition members continued to raise slogans and staged a walkout as Sitharaman continued to list the priorities of the Narendra Modi government.
‘Please maintain the decorum of the House. Things like this never happened before during the Budget speech,” Birla said while requesting the Opposition MPs to allow the Finance Minister to speak.
Opposition’s Ruckus Before The Budget Speech:
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi present in the House, watched as opposition members raised slogans. He pointed out that on budget presentation day only the FM is allowed to present the budget. However, opposition members continued with their sloganeering as Sitharaman continued with her budget speech.
Sitharaman on Saturday created history by presenting the eight consecutive budget. Notably, it is the highest by any Finance Minister after the independence in 1947.
Earlier in the day, Sitharaman and Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary met President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan ahead of the Union Budget.
