Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A former home guard Laxmi Prasad Dubey (64) who was kept in Bhopal Central Jail in connection with the murder of a youth died on Thursday. Alleging negligence by jail officials, the son of the undertrial prisoner demanded a probe into the incident.
He claimed that two persons brought his father on their shoulders when he had gone to meet him three days back at the jail. The jail officials refused to offer treatment despite requests, his son Sunil Dubey alleged. Sunil claimed that on Thursday he got a call from the jail informing him of his father’s death. He could have been saved if provided proper treatment at the jail, he complained.
Investigating officer at Gandhi Nagar police station Ashok Prajapati said Laxmi Prasad Dubey was a native of Rewa district and was posted as a homeguard. In February 2023, Dubey was accused of killing a youth in Harda district. He was arrested by Harda police in March, 2023.
He was lodged at Harda Jail before having been shifted to Bhopal central Jail since a year. Jailor at Bhopal Central Jail MS Marawi denied the allegations and said that a judicial probe would make it all clear. The doctors have confirmed heart seizure as the reason behind his death, Marawi added.
