Sajjak Alam, murder accused killed in an encounter in Uttar Dinajpur while attempting to flee to Bangladesh | X
Kolkata: Police on Saturday had confirmed that Sajjak Alam, an undertrial, who shot at policemen while escaping from custody three days ago, was killed in an encounter in Uttar Dinajpur while he was about to escape to Bangladesh.
The incident took place at Kichaktala in Goalpokhar in the district where Alam opened fire on the policemen and the police in self-defence had shot Alam. Md. Amer Lodhan, doctor of a local medical college said that after being brought to the hospital, Sajjak Alam had succumbed to his injuries.
The doctor also mentioned that Alam had three bullet injuries in his body. ADG law and order Javed Shamim said that the weapon has been recovered.
“We will try to see whether it is the same weapon which he used the other day while shooting the policemen. We are also hopeful that the second person who ran away along with Alam will also be found,” said ADG law and order.
Notably, after the incident of firing at policemen took place on Wednesday, DG Rajeev Kumar while visiting the crime spot and affected police warned of dire action if anyone tries to attack police.
Incidentally, Alam was the prime accused in a 2019 murder case that took place in Karandighi in Uttar Dinajpur district.
