The Indian Under-19 cricket team won the World Cup in 2008 under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. He was included in that team and we will now see a player who played a brilliant innings in the final, umpiring in IPL 2025.

This player is none other than Tanmay Srivastava, who has now been appointed as an umpire in the IPL by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Tanmay Srivastava: Travel from player to umpire

  • In the 2008 Under-19 World Cup final, Tanmay Srivastava played an important innings of 46 runs while batting at number 3 against South Africa.
  • He had said goodbye to cricket about five years ago and has been umpiring in domestic cricket since then.
  • Now BCCI has officially included him in the IPL Umpire panel.

Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) shared information on social media that Tanmay Srivastava would umpire in IPL 2025.

Tanmay Srivastava’s IPL career

  • Tanmay has also played IPL.
  • He played 7 matches for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2008 and 2009.
  • However, he could not leave much impact and score only 8 runs.
  • 7 out of 7 runs came in the same match, while their contribution to the remaining innings was zero.

  • In 2020, he played the last professional match and then retired from cricket.
