Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has filed a formal complaint with the University Grants Commission (UGC) regarding fake universities operating in Madhya Pradesh. The UGC has responded by instructing the state government to conduct an investigation and submit a report on the matter.
NSUI leader Ravi Parmar stated that around 70% of the universities in the state are functioning only on paper. He further claimed that the MP Private University Regulatory Commission had previously directed several universities to appoint qualified Vice Chancellors (VCs) but many institutions still lack eligible VCs.
Parmar also alleged that in these universities, not only are the VCs unqualified, but the staff members are also appointed purely on paper, which raises serious concerns about the quality and legitimacy of these institutions.
In response to the complaint, the UGC has directed the Principal Secretary of Higher Education and Technical Education to prepare a report and submit it to the Commission for further investigation.
