Mumbai – The Bombay High Court has issued a notice to the state government on a petition filed by two members of the Juvenile Justice Board, which challenged the action of sacking them from service for granting bail to a minor accused involved in the Pune Porsche car accident case.
Last October, the government has given two members of JJB, L.K. N. Danavade was arrested and Kavita Thorat’s services were canceled. Under the Juvenile Justice Act, abuse of power and procedural error were accused.
Action was taken after investigation by the Women and Child Development Department. During the investigation, both were found guilty of misconduct and the minor not following the rules while granting bail. After being dismissed from service, both of them filed an application in the High Court and argued that their dismissal was illegal. Chandurkar and Nya Sathe have sent notice to the Women and Child Development Department and the hearing has been fixed for June 18. Thorat claimed that he himself responded to the show cause notice issued by the government. He said that he was fired after investigation. It was claimed that a copy of the investigation report was not given to the applicant. Therefore, this step was described as illegal. On May 19, 2024, a 17 -year -old minor, who was driving Porsche in Kalyani Nagar area of Pune, died after hitting two IT professionals drunk.
Danavade granted bail to the minor with soft conditions. The conditions of bail also included the condition of writing an essay of 300 words on road safety. The bail order spread outrage in the public. The Pune Police applied to the board to review the order. The board later ordered the minor to be sent to the reform home. The High Court ordered his release in June.
In this case, the minor’s parents, two doctors of Sasoon Hospital, two intermediaries and three others were arrested for rigging blood samples.
