The Shantinagar police arrested two Bangladeshi women on Sunday for allegedly residing illegally in Bhiwandi’s Shantinagar area without valid visas or documentation. The accused have been identified as Momina Nisar Ali (28) and Maya alias Amina Nisar Ali (26), both residents of Bhadwad village, opposite Rupesh Mhatre bungalow in Bhiwandi. The police confiscated mobile phones, cash, and Bangladeshi currency totaling ₹18,700 from their possession.

According to the police, they received information about Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the Bhadwad area of Bhiwandi. Acting on the tip-off, a team conducted a raid in the locality. During the preliminary inquiry, it was discovered that the two women had entered India illegally from Bangladesh. Investigations revealed that they had fled their home country due to poverty and unemployment.

Following their arrest, they were presented in court. The police confirmed that they did not possess valid documents or permission to work and live in Bhiwandi. A complaint was filed by Bhushan Patil, a constable from the Shantinagar police station.

In recent years, Thane has witnessed a notable increase in illegal Bangladeshi migrants. In response, the police have launched a special campaign to identify and apprehend such individuals.

Notably, just a week ago, nine Bangladeshi women were arrested in Kongaon village in Bhiwandi for residing illegally for several years without valid documentation.

An FIR has been registered against the accused under provisions of the Foreigners Act and the Indian Passport Act. “We have arrested them, produced them in court, and they have been remanded to police custody for further investigation,” a police official stated.
