Turbhe Hospital’s OPD Active, But Labour Ward Shut Due to Staff Shortage | FPJ/ Farooq Sayed
The labour ward of Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) in Turbhe by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has been non-functional since over a year due to which the pregnant women in Turbhe ward are either referred to Vashi General Hospital or Nerul MCH. The hospital has a functional OPD with a gynecologist but no child births happen due to lack of staff and doctors.
“The hospital needs more three doctors and some staff for restarting the labour ward. The corporation is in the process of hiring the staff. The regular checkups of the pregnant women, sonography, chest, blood tests, and all facilities are available. When it comes to delivery, the patient is referred to Vashi or Nerul hospital who is taken in the ambulance of the corporation itself,” one of the doctors from the health department of NMMC, said.

FPJ/ Farooq Sayed In the year 2011, the hospital was declared dilapidated and then the repair works took place and from the year 2020, the hospital was restarted with OPD. In the year 2021, it was made a MCH and for a brief time, the labour ward was functional and now more than a year, it has been shut.
“Corporation is only interested in splurging money for unnecessary things. Now in the name of ‘deep cleaning’ the city, they are wasting crores of rupees. They could have very well concentrated on health instead. Health is most neglected department of the corporation,” Raju Shinde, former corporator said.
