China America Trade War Marathi News: US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that it does not want to increase the import duty (tariff) on China as it could stop trade between the two countries. According to a Bloomberg report, Trump has also claimed that several attempts have been made by China to start a conversation.
Talking to reporters at the Oval Office, Trump said, “President Xi Jinping and me have very good relations and I think these relations will remain like this. There have been many contacts from China.” However, he avoided answering the question whether he directly talked to Xi.
Asked whether Xi Jinping had contacted himself or any other officer, Trump said, “The same thing is for me. People sitting at the highest level in China have contacted, and if you know Xi, you will know that if someone has contacted him on his behalf, they will know about it.”
Soft trees on tariff, trust in ticket deal
Tension continues between the US and China over import duty. The US has jointly imposed tariffs up to 145% on Chinese goods, while China has imposed a tariff of up to 125% as retaliation.
But Trump said that he is not in favor of further increase in these charges. He said, “People will stop shopping after a certain limit. So I cannot increase it anymore, but I can reduce it.”
Trump expressed confidence that the two countries could reach a trade agreement, including the sale of the American unit of tickets. Trump said, “We have the ticket deal ready, but it is dependent on China’s approval. The deal will remain postponed until the issue is resolved.”
He said that the ticket deal is also beneficial for China and he can approve this deal. “The deal is with some best companies in the world and I think China would like to see it happening.”
Asked if there could be any concession on the tariff issue in lieu of the ticket deal, Trump said, “If the deal is done, we will talk about the ticket for 5 minutes. It will not take much time.”
