Harvard University: US President Donald Trump has suffered a major setback. An American court has stayed the order of the Trump administration to ban the entry of foreign students at Harvard University. Earlier, two cases were filed by Harvard opposing the case. The Trump government can also appeal against this ban.

University in direct confrontation with Trump administration

In a complaint filed in a Boston court on 23 May 2025, Harvard said that banning the entry of foreign students is a clear violation of the US Constitution and other federal laws, and will have an immediate and very adverse effect on the university and its more than 7,000 visa holders. Harvard said. ‘The government has tried to abolish a quarter of Harvard students with a shock of a pen, who are international students and who contribute significantly to the university and its mission.’

The court imposed a temporary ban.

Harvard, one of the oldest universities in the world, said, “Harvard is not Harvard without foreign students.” US District Judge Ellison Buroz, appointed by former Democratic President Barack Obama, issued an order to temporarily ban the policy. Harvard has strongly opposed Trump.

There are currently 788 Indian students in Harvard.

Harvard School has more than 6,800 students from more than 100 countries. It also includes 1203 Chinese students. According to the website of Harvard International Office, 788 students from India are enrolled in all schools under the university in 2024-2025. While Harvard Global Support Services has told on its website that 500-800 Indian students and researchers study in Harvard every year.

Students who will complete their degrees in the current semester will be allowed to obtain a graduate degree. A letter from Homeland Security Secretary Christie Nom said that these changes will be effective in 2025-2026 academic year.

However, students whose degrees have not yet been completed will have to transfer to other universities. If they do not do this, they will lose their legal status of residing in America.

Trump government ordered compliance with these conditions

1. Electronic, audio-video records of those foreign students of Harvard University, who have been officially involved in the premises or out of illegal activities by a foreign student during the last five years.

2. In the last five years, present a record of any violent or dangerous activities done by a foreign student inside or outside the university.

3. In the last five years, provide all available records of threats by foreign students to other students or university staff in or outside the university campus.

4. All records of quarrels or controversies between foreign students at Harvard University and in or outside of any other person.

5. All records of all foreign students who get admission in the last five years.

6. Audio-video records related to foreign students involved in any kind of protest or movement at Harvard University in the last five years.
