News India Live, Digital Desk: US President Donald Trump has announced a 100 percent tariff on foreign films to strengthen the US film industry. In one of his posts on Truth Social Platform on Sunday, he said that he has directed the Commerce Department and American Trade Representative (USTR) to start the process of implementing this tariff on all the films made outside the US.
Trump alleged in his post that other countries are harming the American film industry by giving economic incentives to attract American studios and filmmakers. He described it as a threat not only to economic, but also for national security and said that foreign publicity and messages are also being broadcast through it.
Trump insisted, “We want movies to be made in America.” He said that the purpose of imposing tariffs is to encourage film production at the domestic level and revive the American film industry.
